Markey Funk's label Delights is proud to present its new 7'' release - the debut single by MNP. Born in the minds of Brighton's own Simon Hill (a.k.a. Beta Hector) and his long-time band-mates Toby Sendall (Baby Charles, Derriere) and Robin Mallon (Derriere), the music of MNP combines smoked-out grooves and dark cinematic psychedelia. The trio explores the sonic path laid by European film and library composers of the 1960's, and creates its own kind of deep and moody library psych funk sound.
In the band's own words:
Side A - Heavy Tint
We recorded this track in 2014. Maybe it was spring, maybe it was autumn. The three of us set up in our friend's tiny room in his back garden in Brighton and placed a single microphone in the centre of the room. It was one of MNP's magical moments when we all just started playing and a great tune was born. It was the first thing we played that day. Two years later, on a winter's day in Jerusalem, Markey Funk brought more fire to the track. He added a melodic keyboard line, percussion and his trademark ethereal, dubbed out psychedelic sound.
Side B - Dip-Dab
This track was arranged out of an exotic bassline that we had jammed on a few times and was finally recorded in 2016. MNP had acquired more microphones by this point, but didn't much like mixing their own productions. MNP are grateful to have met Markey Funk, who mixed the track superbly and also played brilliant keyboards on it.
